How can digitization improve higher education? This is what the new research field “Digital University Teaching” is going to answer. Federal Research Minister Johanna Wanka comments: “We want to find the most promising way for the use of new media in higher education. As a basis for a constructive discussion on the opportunities and limits of digitized teaching we need scientific evidence. Therefore must the impact and effectiveness of digital course offerings and their organizational requirements to the universities are specifically explored.” The research field that has been approved €10 million for different projects will focus on the use of new technical developments from other sectors of society for higher education besides how it is already used today. In order to find new customization options in the teaching and additional opportunities for lifelong learning are two examples of future scenarios to teaching 4.0.
