New research from Department of Psychology at Lund University about workplace environment and incivility shows that instigated incivility to a large extent can be explained by witnessing coworker incivility. While negative outcomes were to a high degree explained by experienced supervisor incivility via mediation through perceived low social support, low control, and high job demands. Totally 2871 Swedish employees in the hotel- and restaurant industry participated in an online survey answering questions about their workplace environment. The basic conclusion of the result was that “incivility is seen as a mediator between role stress and aggression”. Source: Press Release Lund University and Hindawi
