At a press conference March 23, 2016, the Luxembourg Minister of Education, Children and Youth, Claude Meisch, introduced the concept of multilingual education that the government will set up in kindergartens. The vision is based on the fact that children during the first years of their life have extraordinary prospects of learning multiple languages. In a multilingual society as Luxembourg and Europe such skills are invaluable. The Ministry of Education intends to seize this opportunity and prepare children 1 to 4 years for a multilingual context of the school and later working life as well as the future society as a whole that will require even more multilingual skills than today. With the concept of multilingual education, the ministry creates a framework for a systematic multilingual education in kindergartens. The pilot phase that runs from March to December 2016 and early 2017 will result in a comprehensive project documentation. Source: News from Luxembourg Ministry of Education, Children and Youth
