In connection with the launch of new media, a Catch 22 usually occur. Nobody wants to produce any content if there are no users and no users will be engaged in the medium if there is no content. But the brilliance of Timothy Berners-Lee’s creation the World Wide Web solved all this. As it was the openness and decentralisation of power to the hands of the users that was the magic formula. During the first 1000 days, 100 000 users produced 450 000 websites, thousands of virtual societies and 150 million web-pages that was visited by 30 millions people from all over the world. The success is unique in media’s history. Today the World Wide Web is becoming 30 years old, with celebrations at CERN etc. For more information click here
