Children learn languages much more effectively than adults a lot of evidence from research propose. New research from MIT shows that this golden era of learning a language is longer than have been suggested before. To learn the grammar of a new language is expected to last in the age of 17-18 years old. Joshua Hartshorne, an assistant professor of psychology at Boston College said the following about the study: “If you want to have native-like knowledge of English grammar you should start by about 10 years old. We don’t see very much difference between people who start at birth and people who start at 10, but we start seeing a decline after that.” The research is based on an analysis of a grammar quiz taken by nearly 670 000 people.
