The Norwegian government now is working to overbridge the digital divide for the next step of the digitization of school. In this spirit, it is starting eight new projects for further training of teachers to improve their digital competence. A flexible and adaptable curriculum and the individual teacher’s work situation will be the main focus of the courses. The themes of the courses are programming and robotics in the industry. Furthermore, how working life can use technology to improve organisations and increase growth. This means that another objective is to decrease the gap between school education and future working life. Additional themes for the project are cybersecurity, IT-architecture, 3D-modelling and AI. Universities and business will develop the courses in collaboration.

In a report from Oslo Metropolitan University the importance of using digital tools and content in education is being concluded and the impact on the pupils’ results. The research has focused on mathematics exams and shows that there are big differences in pupils’ skills level in using digital tools, but also the access to these tools differs. The research material is based on interviews of pupils and teachers, but also case studies from different schools with classroom observations. You can download the report in Norwegian here, the summary is in English.
