SmartcodeeLearningworld Weekly ReviewDen 4E Industriella Revolutionen: Om Artificiell Empati Och Eftersläpande Regeringar

At the session “The Transformation of Tomorrow” in the Davos Summit 2016 the fourth industrial revolution was discussed. As a historical background the first industrial revolution can be dated to around 1784 with steam, water, mechanical production, the second industrial revolution to around 1870 with division of labour, electricity and mass-production, while the third can be dated to around 1969 with electronics, IT and automated production. The fourth industrial revolution that is expected to have an equally transformative effect on the society, its engine is cyber-physical systems where artificial intelligence and internet of things is two driving forces. Fears of this transformation is continuing to soar e.g. that robots will take over the jobs of the 20th Century, that virtual reality will replace normal relationships etc. etc. But according Sheryl Sandberg, Chief Operating Officer of Facebook, there are so much more to gain that improves life and “hope will triumph over fear”, she says. New jobs will replace the old, and relations have got with the web one more dimension or one more room to develop within.

Artificial Empathy

Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft, is talking about using public cloud technology to create public good in order make it possible for everybody in developing countries to both use and create new world class solutions. The President of Rwanda, Paul Kagame, continues on this subject that in order to use these prerequisites to create a flourishing startup-scene nations’ have to focus on the small business environment. According to the World Banks forecasts Rwanda will have a 7.6% GDP growth during the next three years so the government has made a good job so far. Anand Mahindra, Managing Director of Mahindra Group, asks “how do we program artificial empathy?” His answer is that Facebook is one example of fuelling artificial empathy by bringing people together. But artificial intelligence is a force that can be misused and Anand Mahindra is using Starwars as an analogy: We have to decide if we want to be a Jedi or a Sith.

Governments is lagging behind the 4th industrial revolution

Zachary Bookman, CEO at OpenGov.com, says about technology that “so many governments are not only slightly behind but a generation behind”. The outcome of this is less equality, less economic development, less opportunity, and less access to education that also is outdated. The winners in the third industrial revolution is not the same as in the fourth industrial revolution since it is a new playground with great opportunities for everybody that is able to embrace it.
