The seven year downturn of printed books has come to an end according to Nielsen’s TCM. At the same time as the recent boom market for eBooks is now transforming into a mature stage. However, the format of both printed books and ebooks are basically plain text with illustration. Now it is time for the next step. To use the words from Horizon Report 2011: “What make electronic books a potentially transformative technology are the new kinds of reading experiences that they can make possible. Publishers are beginning to explore richly visual interfaces that include multimedia and collaborative elements.” This form of enhanced book can also include interactive exercises and simulations etc. Philip Jones writes the following on theBookseller.com ”Just as the print market has accommodated the e-book, so the enhanced e-book might yet carve out a space outside of what may be a robust but largely established e-ink market.” Source: theBookseller.com and B-InteraQtive Publishing
