It is more authentic to listening to vinyl or sitting by a desk and writing with a pen on a paper in comparison with digital developments within the field is still a common view. The Stanford scholar Vanessa Chang’s research within this field of human interaction brings new perspectives. She says “We come to know the world through our movements. They embody our creativity, agency and subjectivity. As a site of expression and contestation, artistic practice is a productive place to explore how movement is changing alongside developments in technology.” Vanessa Chang concludes: “Along with those traditional forms of artistic expression, a new poetics of gestures and movement creates a sense of reinvented authenticity in the digital age, in which technology plays a defining role.” The key to authenticity in the digital world thereby is interactivity, which both takes us to the edge of digital development but also back to the basics of human interaction.
