Latest News: Adapting teacher training to take the lead in the Digital Age

The Norwegian Government is launching a new curriculum for teacher training where the education to become a teacher in primary school will require a master degree with five years of study from 2017. Two of the areas the new curriculum focuses on are a much stronger direction on science-based knowledge and to be able to use ICT within all subject-fields of teaching. To acquire top digital skills are regarded as a natural part of the education. Besides the new teacher training education for prospective teachers, Norway is already running an impressive further teacher training project. The Minster of Education, Torbjørn Røe Isaksen explains: “We must educate the teachers Norway is requiring in the future. Teachers that can contribute to that our children and grand-children not only is able to keep up with a technological development that progress extremely fast, but is able to lead this development.” Source: Press Release from the Ministry of Education in Norway
