The term origins from Darwin’s motto; ”survival of the fittest”. It is an environment where the best adapted survives and prospers. In education this means a traditional classroom where the teacher holds a monologue in front of a silent class. Then asking questions that the most adapted student’s answers. The consequence of this environment will be a standardisation with an unspoken goal to fit all students in the same mould. Students with other skills than the ones that are rewarded in traditional classroom pedagogy’s mould will be disadvantaged.
