Digital Society Education – No more Ranking from Exam results

Session 1989711 640 1As the number 1 in the OECD Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA)Read It On Applenews Badge Rgb Us Uk education rankings 2016, Singapore is now taking one further step to improve and adapt the educational system to the digital society.  Ong Ye Kung, Education Minister of Singapore, says: “Learning is not a competition”. In this spirit, the Ministry of Education (MOE) is planning a series of changes that all are aimed at discouraging comparisons between student performance and encourage individuals to concentrate on their own learning development. This transformation will start in 2019 where all exams for primary years 1 and 2 students will be abolished. Older students in primary and secondary school will also learn and develop in a less competitive environment. Besides directing the focus on actual learning, it also encourages focus on soft skills development, in other words, personal development, like decision-making skills etc. Furthermore, this approach putting the human capital at the centre of economic development and transformation, which is especially important for a country like Singapore with no natural resources.
