This autumn automated text analysis will be tested in one course at Michigan University — Statistics 250, after the upgrade of the M-Write application that is developed by the university. The main goal with the upgrade was to implement writing-to-learn pedagogies in large enrollment courses. Such courses that require a higher level of automation in order to fast identify the strengths and weaknesses of a student’s writing submission and improve the prospects of revising their work and learn from it. The text analysis will be introduced in order to identify students as early as possible that require support. The next step is to make use of the technology in the assessment process. M-Write is a part of a digital toolkit that is under development that e.g. also includes ECoach that will be used to send messages to students with what to do in a to-do list built into the coaching program.
