October 18 researchers at QuTech in Delft, the Netherlands, published a comprehensive guide towards a quantum internet in Science. The guide describes six phases of development and starts with simple networks of qubits that could already enable secure quantum communications. The last phase of development is information networks that are fully quantum-connected via quantum computers. An information environment where hackers have to find something else to do as the goal is to make surveillance impossible. By the end of 2020, four cities in the Netherlands will be connected with this quantum internet according to the plan, including Delft where QuTech is located. The researchers approach is called quantum teleportation of data. See the video below about the technology.
